The Woolpack lake 8 - part 12
This week is a little different as we start off as a guest on my mates Jeffs syndicate Virginia lake. I first laid eyes on this water in 1981 when it was on the ARC angling club ticket. I never fished it at the time as the lakes further up the drove had far more carp in them but now that has all changed and this lake is stuffed with carp up to thirty pounds plus. So we start off with an overnighter, a freshly made batch of K-LO popups and boilies and then go on to lake 8.

Cooking with Matt
Here is a lad blogging on YouTube making a very special Panini. Have to say he has gone one better than me and i need to up my game a bit! The thing i did love about this film is the camaraderie and banter. Lets face it, if you're going to make food as good as this by the bank then you're going to make friends!

Frisby lakes
It's not often i get to fish a new water so when the chance came along to fish Frisby lakes i wasted no time in getting and invite. Luckily for me i know the new fishery manager Chris Angell who has just taken over so a quick message back and forth set up the session and a few days later i was on my way.

The Importance of bait
The great thing about reviewing my sessions whilst editing is that i can analyse them and identify my strengths. Only through this can a pattern of success or otherwise be identified and this film has a message that's abundantly clear and that's the importance of bait and how you apply it. A constant trickle of bait over a four day period has paid off for me on many occasions and the reasons are obvious. We know they eat our bait at there own time of choosing and it's because of this that we have to regulate what's in the swim. Too much and they might fill up and move on before picking up the trap. Too little and there caution remains making it equally likely that they won't pick up the bait. Little and often regulates how much is in the swim but it also gives you variation too. Bait will be spread out more randomly and will be in different states of breakdown so this will see the carp being a lot less cautious and the fact that there is always a few baits in the swim too is a real bonus. The only thing left is to keep an eye on conditions, adjust your feeding accordingly and of course, be lucky!

True Carping - St Ives Lakes
It was way back in 1982 when I first laid eyes on the St Ives complex of lakes and I fished it on and off for the next 8 years. Since then it has matured and many of the carp have grown on to become famous and highly prized. The ever increasing army of carpers is growing and the trend for results has led to an explosion of instant carping. Stocked lakes full of fish where you can catch a twenty, a thirty, a forty or even a fifty. Swims are built with railway sleepers and hardcore, toilets and showers are provided for the endless stream of punters. Carpers from all over flock to cut their teeth and make their names on them, but St Ives is different. None of the above applies to this place, it's wild and rough where waders and a 'can do' attitude are essential piece's of kit. For me though, it's not about named fish or their weights, but the place itself. It has an atmosphere and wildness about it that changes you. This is a true story of one carper, as it happens, keeping it real, seeking adventure and having fun. This is true carping.

Pingles pool - Last of the Cuckoo's
Pingles Pool is an old clay pool situated in rural fenland and it is full of beautiful, fat Mirrors and Commons. It has been twenty years since I last fished and laid eyes upon this lovely little pool and in those following years many fish had been added and grown on with the olduns. The lilies had taken over all of the shallow margins and bars while some of the old mighty trees had crashed into the lake margins. Renowned for it's moods and the ever-surprising fenland weather the pool has an atmosphere all of it's own. Let the adventure begin!

Fishing at your best
You know when you're fishing at your best and it's not just the results that indicate it but the feeling you get. My recent trip to Linfords Alder lake was typical of this feeling and so is this film. 'You only get one life' has been available for download now for a year. If you haven't already purchased it then you're missing out! One of those dream sessions and waters where everything flows to the inevitable result, an amazing fish in the back of the net. If i had the dollar
I often find that you can say more with a few words of poetry or verse than you ever could in a conversation. But it's not just words that you're conveying but emotions as well. Your painting an abstract that becomes rich, full of meaning. For me it's the most satisfying and cathartic way of writing and i have written literally hundreds over my lifetime, so more to come as they say.

Summer always comes
Summer always comes as they say so even now at the start of winter with the frosts and the cold rain i am looking forward once again to those long barmy days. This year between April and November i managed to spend two or three nights every week by the bank. In that time i caught almost a hundred carp and now with winter upon us these summer sessions where i did so well and had so much fun are coming to the fore. So over the next few months join me as summer comes to my films and we relive those moments.
