#silt
Silt rig
One of the simplest rigs i use is this silt rig. A heavy lead, a short braided hooklink and a balanced popup. The whole thing is designed to draw the lead and hooklink down into the silt leaving only the balanced popup showing. The dissolvable foam ensures that it will be set right after pulling the rig into the silt. You can easily judge this when you pull out the rig or catch a fish! On the pull out you will notice the rig 'plucks' as it comes out of the silt. I use this mostly on gravel pits where the silt has collected up the sides of deviations in the lake bed. Like anything you get a feel for it after a number of casts. It can be a real winner!

Fluoro K-LO
Something that's been missing from my bait box recently are these, fluoro popups. What with getting the full range of The Berry sorted it slipped my mind and now of course is when i need them the most. The weather over the last six weeks has been hot with days when there isn't a breath of wind and it's at times like these that an inquisitive bite can get you that bonus fish. So with the weather looking like it's going to continue hot they're sure to get used. You can get them here http://thecarpcatcher.co.uk/bait-k-lo.php

A magical trip
For some years i have planned a very special trip down this very special little river and each year i promise myself the same thing. Get a canoe and go. There is miles of wondrous winding river and countryside to meander down with untouched fishing and carp to be found. There is so much adventure and unknown out there, still. Summer always comes
Summer always comes as they say so even now at the start of winter with the frosts and the cold rain i am looking forward once again to those long barmy days. This year between April and November i managed to spend two or three nights every week by the bank. In that time i caught almost a hundred carp and now with winter upon us these summer sessions where i did so well and had so much fun are coming to the fore. So over the next few months join me as summer comes to my films and we relive those moments.

TheCarpCatcher Bait
The second most important thing after location as far as i am concerned is bait, it is after all what you put in front of the fish to catch it. My faith in bait is as strong as my passion for it and if i didn't have total confidence in my bait then i wouldn't use it, it's that simple. So this year see's the start of TheCarpCatcher Bait and hopefully it will prosper. At the moment the field testers are getting the chance to get some of the initial batch from the manufacturer and as always their voluntary feedback is always welcome. Last years test went amazingly well and there will be more on the way. The Berry needs developing and testing with it's new format. Then there is Ultimate Fish Mix a culmination of everything that is awesome in a fishmeal bait basically :-) Popups and Bait soaks to develop and test too plus all sorts of other things to give us that confidence and edge that we all want over our fishy foe. If you want to apply to become a field tester for TheCarpCatcher Bait then follow the link, cheers. http://thecarpcatcher.co.uk/notifications.php

The Woolpack lake 7 - part four
It's the last week of May 2016 and the weather is in a downturn with cold wet driving northerly winds day and night. When i arrived I counted plenty of cars in the car park so i knew it was going to be tough getting a swim on the wind and a walk around the lake soon revealed little option. Now it's at times like these when you think your chances of a fish are small that you must push on. Places like lake seven are not easy prospects and you need to spend as much time on the lake learning as you can. So even if a session looks like a write off, you must still go. Remember if it was just about catching fish it wouldn't be called fishing.

Fishing at your best
You know when you're fishing at your best and it's not just the results that indicate it but the feeling you get. My recent trip to Linfords Alder lake was typical of this feeling and so is this film. 'You only get one life' has been available for download now for a year. If you haven't already purchased it then you're missing out! One of those dream sessions and waters where everything flows to the inevitable result, an amazing fish in the back of the net. Fishing match
Whilst chatting to Alf the Bailiff last week in the Tackle shop at Linford lakes i suggested we have a friendly match. A time and venue was set for Monday 6-8pm on the canal between Alf, Gordon Owen (the tackle shop manager) and myself. Alf turned up with all the kit and Gordon and me...well we had some old gear pulled out of the shed and a few rusty old size 12's. As the match progressed Gordon and i steadily caught skimmers, roach and perch whilst Alf was still setting up all his poles and specialist platform. Gordon managed to cast into the reeds opposite every second cast eventually losing it to a pull for a break ten minutes from the end. I found myself surprised, fishing like i had never had a pause from it. After spending much of my early life with a float rod in my hand it felt like second nature to me. I managed three tench as well as all the bits and won easily. My secret weapon? Berry bolies crushed up and mixed into groundbait.... Happy days ;-)

Give it a spin
This is the final test batch of The Berry which i have just received fresh from the manufacturer and it's dead right. The last batch caught for me first time out, all it needed was a slight tweak to the level of attractors and a small change to the basemix. They have done a first class job and so tonight i am going to pop out and give it a spin. The weather is looking unsettled so if i can get the location right and find a hole in the weed i reckon my chances are good. As soon as i get back from fishing i will get the Popups, Hard hookers, Paste and glug sorted and it should be on the shelves shortly.
