As swims go this isn't a bad one eh? This is Almatret on the Catalonian side of the river and on the other side your in Aragon. The border at this point runs exactly along the middle of the River Ebro. Spain has what they call autonomous communities which are in themselves nationalities within the Kingdom of Spain much like Wales or Scotland. So if you go to fish in spain then you're most likely going to be fishing in Catalonia or Aragon. And therein lies a problem as they also have unique differences in their language so you dont just need to learn Spanish, you also need to learn some Catalonian at least. However dont fear, English is and has been for centuries one of the most adaptable languages in the world taking on many words from other cultures, so most Spanish speak it! Anyway i digress, back to the swim. Its 307 meters wide and has depths over 11 meters. Old olive groves litter the closer in areas as well as massive boulders, sunken trees and most likely the odd ship or three littered here and there. We get the odd twig floating down river, they get trees and the odd bloated 100lb+ catfish! I kid you not, snaggy isn't the word.

Park farm part six
It's half twelve in the afternoon and i have been putting out mixers for an hour or so hoping to get the carp interested however conditions change and so does the session.
#lake 3
A legend
It's the tenth anniversary today of the passing of a legend, Lenny middleton. Lenny is best know for the invention of the hair rig (see: but he was also a Taxidermist of some repute and enjoyed fishing in all it's forms. Lenny fished all the famous venues including Savay at the height of it's glory alongside all the other legendary names, he had seen it and done it all. A true sportsman, a gentleman and a fine maker of tea his contribution to carp fishing is immense. So whenever you cast out a hair rig pay a little homage to the man himself because he earned it. Lenny is seen here on Lake 3 with Bertie back in 2005, one of a few he had that afternoon on kit that got thrown out by the dustman, an original hair rig and bait that looked like rubber floor tile! I kid you not, a real master.
#leyland water
Leyland water Part two
Dawn is breaking as I arrive in the carp park at manicure, it's been a couple of months since my last 'very' successful visit. The members log book is littered with blanks and 'makes grim reading' but to be honest? I am well confident!
The Woolpack lake 7 - part six
Episode six is the first part of a three night session i did on lake 7 back in August 2016. A rare chance to be on my own on lake seven and an opportunity to see how they react without the usual bombardment under ideal weather conditions. The constant heat and southwesterly winds had been replaced by cooler northwesterlies and even though fish were showing half way up the lake my instinct told me to get on the end of a summer northerly, set my traps and wait.
Eight years on
We are just a few months off my eighth year doing this and in that time i have kept the way i film and edit almost unchanged. The quality has improved tremendously from the tiny 360p to full HD 1080p. The old ten minute limit on blogs has long passed. Millions of views from you, watched from all over the world and you continue to do so. The only change this year is the titles, i have spruced them up a bit ;-) However i wont be over celebrating i'll just keep them coming same as ever. Going my own way, seeking adventure, having fun but most importantly, keeping it real. Cheers!
Fishing at your best
You know when you're fishing at your best and it's not just the results that indicate it but the feeling you get. My recent trip to Linfords Alder lake was typical of this feeling and so is this film. 'You only get one life' has been available for download now for a year. If you haven't already purchased it then you're missing out! One of those dream sessions and waters where everything flows to the inevitable result, an amazing fish in the back of the net. Watch:
#fully scaled
Fins up fully
Having five days to fish and film on a prolific fishery like Nicholls lake it's no surprise that a few gems turned up. I lost count of the scattered/fully scaled carp i had but i didn't forget the really special catches amongst them and this is one of them. I can only imagine how fantastic this is going to look in another five years when it'll most likely be twice the size.

Park farm part five
It's my second session on Park farm one and the lake is packed out. However there is no one in the swim on the end of the wind so i quickly jump in. After amassing around twenty runs the previous week i am expecting to do well again. Visits from Gordon Owen, manager of the on-site tackle shop and 'Shaun of the dead' yet again keep my spirits up as i begin to haul.
