Pushing the limits
This picture was taken in 1991, that's my son Marcus who is now 25 years old wearing my hat. As you can see i started fishing with my rods up over 25 years ago now so it's not something that's new to me.Things like this can be just fashion of course but as i said a few posts ago i consider using the the rod setup also as part of the trap by enabling the rig and the lead system to perform differently. Just recently over the last few sessions i have been pushing this to the limit and with some astonishing success. However as with anything you push to the limit you always find the edge and so have i. So this week i will be taking all that i have learned through my successes as well as my mistakes and dialing it back a bit, fine tuning it. This for me is what fishing is really all about, finding a method, getting it to work and hopefully bagging a few before it all changes.

The Woolpack lake 8 - part 12
This week is a little different as we start off as a guest on my mates Jeffs syndicate Virginia lake. I first laid eyes on this water in 1981 when it was on the ARC angling club ticket. I never fished it at the time as the lakes further up the drove had far more carp in them but now that has all changed and this lake is stuffed with carp up to thirty pounds plus. So we start off with an overnighter, a freshly made batch of K-LO popups and boilies and then go on to lake 8.

River Cam Carp Quest
My local river is the Cam ten minutes from my house. In 2011 i went back to fish it again for the carp after being so successful in 2004. This is the story of what happened and how i caught a Cambridge legend and it's mates. Some of my best fishing and part seven is my finest moment when i landed 'The Linear', a real stunner of a fish.

Swavesey Lake
I had spent most of the early spring/summer months fishing fenland clay pits and although i had caught many a fine carp i craved to be back on a windswept gravel pit. So after a chat ticket was secured for a syndicate on a Cambridgeshire gravel pit that held a small number of large and little caught carp. More than enough to keep me happy me thinks!

Bivvy Tramps
Who are your top five carpers of all time? How about top five carp captures, or even better, top five bivvy babes? Join Kes and his camo-clad mates in Tommy's Tackle shop to sort out the important carp questions of the day. Kes has been a camper far too long, but he's determined to prove himself by catching the Fat Lady from St Ives Lagoon. Lying on his narrow-boat bunk he dreams of being an X-treme carper, tackling rock hard waters like Fen Drayton and Wraysbury. Unfortunately his plans are put on hold when he gets involved with a new ultra commercial carp fishery, and caught up in a whole lot of trouble with bunny huggers, and the worst Ouse valley flood in living memory. Author Martin Lawrence brings the carp world of Kes and his mates to vivid life in this imaginative fenland tale of camaraderie, dreams, opinions, car boot sales, heavy metal, carp captures, antis and disaster. This totally original book will quickly find a cult following from the legions of carpers who share Kes's aspirations and love of carp fishing.

Park farm part three
It's the middle of the day and after a concerted effort to get one off the top i finally succeed only to lose it. Knowledge comes from mistakes but they are called lessons to ease the sting. So lesson learned i make the required changes. Thirty minutes later i am back in action. with the fish safely in the net another lesson is learned. Such is life and carp fishing.
The Woolpack lake 7 - part six
Episode six is the first part of a three night session i did on lake 7 back in August 2016. A rare chance to be on my own on lake seven and an opportunity to see how they react without the usual bombardment under ideal weather conditions. The constant heat and southwesterly winds had been replaced by cooler northwesterlies and even though fish were showing half way up the lake my instinct told me to get on the end of a summer northerly, set my traps and wait.

True Carping - St Ives Lakes
It was way back in 1982 when I first laid eyes on the St Ives complex of lakes and I fished it on and off for the next 8 years. Since then it has matured and many of the carp have grown on to become famous and highly prized. The ever increasing army of carpers is growing and the trend for results has led to an explosion of instant carping. Stocked lakes full of fish where you can catch a twenty, a thirty, a forty or even a fifty. Swims are built with railway sleepers and hardcore, toilets and showers are provided for the endless stream of punters. Carpers from all over flock to cut their teeth and make their names on them, but St Ives is different. None of the above applies to this place, it's wild and rough where waders and a 'can do' attitude are essential piece's of kit. For me though, it's not about named fish or their weights, but the place itself. It has an atmosphere and wildness about it that changes you. This is a true story of one carper, as it happens, keeping it real, seeking adventure and having fun. This is true carping.

Frisby lakes
It's not often i get to fish a new water so when the chance came along to fish Frisby lakes i wasted no time in getting and invite. Luckily for me i know the new fishery manager Chris Angell who has just taken over so a quick message back and forth set up the session and a few days later i was on my way.
