#alder lake
Alder lake playlist
Even though i fish and film these sessions. Edit and re-edit, preview and release i still like to go back and rewatch them over again. You never take it all in on the first watch, you can easily miss things. For me however it's not just about that but also reliving the moments, happy days spent chasing my dreams.
#common carp
A real Gem
It gets busy on lake 7 early in the year so i delayed my first visit until this week. However when i arrived at the lake almost all the swims on the West bank were taken so i opted to walk the East bank with my water bottle, and try and find a swim that gave me the most clear water. For a while i was torn between two swims out of a possible four choices but i eventually settled in a swim in the south east corner. The wind was blowing from the North west straight into the area i was in but would be moving to the south south-west. In the final twenty-four hours it would be moving back to the North west. Despite the rain temperatures stayed up giving me the confidence to keep feeding the spots, building them up over the session and wait for the turn in the wind. On the last night it turned and i had a nice carpet of bait out from 1-3 days old lying in wait. Just before first light on the last morning the right hand rod ripped off with this 31.6lb common on the end, as my good friend Martin Lawrence said, a real Gem and a great way to start my year. Successful setup was my semi-fix-running-rig, my standard fluorocarbon bottom-bait-rig with a 18mm K-LO Hard hooker.

The Berry
As many of you know it was i that came up with the recipe for 'The Berry'. This bait has never failed me and so this morning i will be making up a batch especially for the Linford Show this weekend. I will be socialising for most of the days spent at Linford around the site and at the bivvy (i have gourmet coffee and brown sauce!). Whilst i am at the bivvy i will endeavour to catch a carp of course! I have made a few rigs up but it will be the bait that i pay most attention too. Oh and the food!
#glabbacher Bruch
Glabbacher Bruch
I thought it best to get this post up now as i am being asked where i am going to fish in Germany. Glabbacher Bruch is just over the german border eleven kilometers from Venlo Holland. For more information go here to look at the map: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.353398,6.2656468,15z and here for my previous post http://thecarpcatcher.co.uk/thecarpcatchers_blog.php?post=306
#line lay
Bedding down your line
Choosing an area or spot to fish isn't just about the spot itself but also about what lays between you and the rig. Line lay has a big effect on whether you catch or not. So choosing an area you can fish effectivly is important. Once I have cast my rig and followed it down I always spend some time getting the line lay right and bedding it down. It's out of sight, it ensures the rig works as it should and importantly doesn't spook fish off before they have even got on your spot.
#nick burrage
Nick Burrage social
Four hours in the company of Nick Burrage, in-session on his syndicate. Nick demonstrates his hook sharpening with the Jag system and we discus... Weather, water temperature, location, leads, density, displacement, bait boats, hooks, hooking, hook sharpening, camouflage, fishing in silt, targeting fish, baiting up, the smartcast, coots, pickups and aquatic life. Pasties, cakes and coffee are the order of the day
#that run
On-camera runs
Over the past seven years the rods have fired off a number of times on-camera. The most memorable being 'that run' (see http://thecarpcatcher.co.uk/thecarpcatchers_blog.php?post=160). It's always a dilemma for me as often the camera is just put down in an instant without the thought of filming. I am then faced with the task of moving the camera whilst playing a fish, a precarious past-time for sure. Fish are often dropped when concentration is lost. However i feel it would be nice to get more of this footage in my films. Perhaps it's time to get the tripod out more eh :-)
#the lodge
Luxury fishing
Having the lodge is well handy especially for short sessions when i am traveling light stalking. No need to bring a cooker or even a chair. I can just retire to the lodge for a quick cupper and a rest. I plan on making as much use of it as possible as i am sure it'll make the fishing easier and a lot more fun!
#waveney valley
Waveney Valley Lakes 1985
Back in 1985 i visited the famous Waveney Valley lakes in norfolk with three other friends, as you can see the kit has changed but i haven't changed that much. This is G lake and at the time was stocked with plenty of 20lb carp which avoided capture really well on this trip. It was late season and we only managed one fish between us but i did go back for another visit the following year and made up for it with a few really chunky 20's. Alas those pictures are long lost and all that survives of my visit is a few slides i took which i have now scanned. Here we are in 2015 and it's hard to believe that this was thirty years ago.
