Back in my early days carp fishing i still got out in the winter to fish for Pike as had been the custom every winter since i first fished for them back in the late 1960's. The winters of 1982-3 were spent on a few of my local gravel pits fishing for carp but i soon formed the opinion that if i wanted to catch fish and still enjoy my fishing then i should put away the carp rigs and get out the wire trace. At the moment carp fishing takes up all my time Spring, Summer and Autumn and the winters have been neglected. So it's time to remedy that and get back to doing what i love, being out there. The picture above was taken in 1985 on Big Fjords, St ives. The fish i think weighed around mid-upper doubles. The rod was a glass fibre Jack Hilton carp rod and the reel my trusty old mitchell 300
