I first fished the River Cam for carp in September 2004, I was looking for a new challenge, one that nobody else had either done or was doing and didn't depend on bivvying up for days on end as I only had the summer evenings to fish.
I've always looked for solitude in my fishing, I think most of us do, so fishing for carp on a river not only was a very big challenge but I'd almost certainly be the only carp angler around.
It didn't take me long to select the area I was going to fish, the sewer outfall by the A14 bridge. Now to be honest I hadn't seen any carp in my earlier reconnoiters but it felt like the ideal place to start and so on a warm sunny evening on the 1st September 2014 I sat down with two rods and managed to catch an 18lb common!
Game on.
I went on to catch ten carp with a few recaptures over the next two months, all doubles except one fat mirror that came in at 20lb+.
It wasn't until seven years later that I returned and you can read all about this here
