With weather this hot (27C today) I find little point sitting in a bivvy roasting. So this morning I set out with just one rod, a net, my mat and a bag of chum mixer.
First stop was Crystal lakes where I had the carp going absolutely crazy on the mixers within minutes of arriving. However, they were very very cute and I did not connect with a single one of the dozens of takes I had.
A few hours later I was back home having a cool drink when I decided that after lunch I would pop over the road to a local pit I have fished man and boy for the last 50 years.
Back in 1985 it had a dozen commons put in it which have never grown to huge proportions but are good looking fish and at times difficult to catch.
An hour of feeding mixers off the breeze did the trick though and eventually one made a mistake.
I have to say I was really surprised at getting one and well happy too!
