My sessions on the Great Ouse river are mostly short 6-8 hour affairs where I usually concentrate on just one swim. All the work like finding the actual areas/spots and sussing them out has been done before hand so when I move into a swim all I have to do is fish. Same as when I fished the river Cam I spend more time looking and observing than I actually do fishing.
On the river Ouse spots can often be miles apart and usually you find just one in any given area that allows you to angle for them. However this area has two good spots and it was the second one that gave me this fish. I had started in the prime spot but having extracted a few fish from it already I had the sense (given the blanks), that it was drying up. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw what is a very rare site on a river, a rolling carp, and it was right on the second spot. I wasted no time in moving the 100 yards or so up river and quickly put a bait on the area it rolled in.
Ten minutes or so passed by and I sat back and tried to relax there was nothing left to do but wait. It was difficult though because seeing a carp on the river and knowing it's feeding had me on edge. When the run came it was like all my birthdays had come at once, I was so excited. I had another Great Ouse carp on the end of my line and I just couldn't believe my luck.
Whatever happens for the rest of the season my Great Ouse fishing will keep me going, it's turned out to be so much better than I could ever have dreamed of.
