Here's a bait tip for you if you're looking for an alternative to Robin Red.
Robin Red is a bird food supplement to colour up bird plumage. It's made up of a number of ingredients to do with: plumage colour, palatability and manufacturing.
Most of the ingredients in my opinion are not needed as they are either already in your mix via other ingredients, or have no benefit. The two primary ingredients we are interested in as carp anglers are the colouring agents used in the Robin Red mix.
Canthaxanthin is a colouring agent found in shellfish, it's designation in the food industry is e161g, the other is Paprika. Both give that distinctive red colour to bait. Paprika however is the only one that really gives off taste and smell. Canthaxanthin isn't needed because it's really there just to colour up plumage. You can buy it from health food shops, it colours the skin orange, like a sun tan.....
So all you need in a carp bait is Paprika. A kilo of that is less cost than a kilo of Robin Red, however it will go much further because it's neat (not diluted down with other ingredients like RR).
