It was June 16th 1980 when I first went fishing for carp, an iconic year where Chris Yates set a new British record from Redmire pool with the first 50lb carp. My first was just 3lb but I did set out with the same intention, passion and bait (sweetcorn).
So here we are forty years later with the full knowledge that if I was to repeat that feat I would probably have to work a bit harder.
The weed had grown wild and abundant in the last four decades and the carp were bigger and wiser. However my confidence is high, I have a good bait, sharp hooks and I know what I am to do.
Establish the spots and bait and push myself towards that first bite.
