The Woolpack lake 7 - part five
It's my first week using my new Trakker Tempest brolly something i have been wanting to sort for a some time. Weather for the week is westerlies and sunshine and the swim choice is the south bank giving me a great view of the lake as well as a chance to fish the exit of the drainage channel and put a bait near the sanctuary of the southwest corner. The lake has just opened after a six week break for spawning and so has been very busy with plenty of pressure on the fish so i am expecting it to be tough.

A loss to fishing
I have fished this lake for a number of years now and have caught many of the carp that inhabit it, much of my time being spent doing day sessions with the occasional over-nighter. With depths that average around five feet it warms up quick in the spring and shuts down equally as quick in the winter. The stock consists of mirrors and commons around mid-doubles to mid-twenties with a few ornamental fish turning up occasionally, so a bite can be on the cards most days. With a lockable gate, a peaceful tranquil atmosphere and a good stock of fish it seems like heaven however this unfortunately is not the case. The club that owns the lake seem to pay little attention to it, i have never seen a bailiff there and the lock on the gate is always broken. The local farmer uses the access track to service his fields as well as the track alongside the lake which has destroyed the track to the point where driving a car down is almost impossible preventing access. This has meant that few anglers now visit to fish it and with this lack of use and more importantly watchful eyes has come the fly tipping and unwanted visits from non-anglers. The litter is building up, trees have even been cut down to build fires and I have to say that i don’t feel safe there which is one reason i rarely fish it nowadays, especially on my own. The shame is that the club owns the lake and unless the club changes its approach and attitude things will only get worse and that is a great shame and a loss to fishing.

Pingles pool - Last of the Cuckoo's
Pingles Pool is an old clay pool situated in rural fenland and it is full of beautiful, fat Mirrors and Commons. It has been twenty years since I last fished and laid eyes upon this lovely little pool and in those following years many fish had been added and grown on with the olduns. The lilies had taken over all of the shallow margins and bars while some of the old mighty trees had crashed into the lake margins. Renowned for it's moods and the ever-surprising fenland weather the pool has an atmosphere all of it's own. Let the adventure begin!

In with a chance
Mid morning saw me moving swims to the Woods. The carp were on the back of the wind and out of the way of the cold easterly blowing down the lake. Traps are set and hopefully ill get a bite.

Responsive blogging
A big part of TheCarpCatcher isn't just about the skills on the bank it's also about the skills in front of the computer. From the fishing and filming comes the editing, uploading and releasing on the web. YouTube, Facebook, Google and Twitter are there ready to suck up your content but of course it can soon disappear in the never ending feed. In 1996 i made a good decision for my future and a bad one for my current fishing, i went to university to study Computer Science. In 2007 i built my first website for TheCarpCatcher when i started blogging. Now fully responsive, for mobile, pad or pc my blog is in it's second year with 300+ posts. I lost three years of carping, but we wouldn't have TheCarpCatcher without it.

Summer always comes
Summer always comes as they say so even now at the start of winter with the frosts and the cold rain i am looking forward once again to those long barmy days. This year between April and November i managed to spend two or three nights every week by the bank. In that time i caught almost a hundred carp and now with winter upon us these summer sessions where i did so well and had so much fun are coming to the fore. So over the next few months join me as summer comes to my films and we relive those moments.

Editing films
Having finished editing and uploading this weeks episode of The Woolpack lake 8 i have once again started to edit the film footage i shot down in Kent at Nicholls lake, Hythe. I am currently finishing off the first episode of two possibly three in total. These will be released through my CarpCatcher Plus channel to raise funds for Carping4Heros. As you can see i treated myself to the latest version of Power director (14) (see: http://www.cyberlink.com/) as my old copy was six years old and did not want to work in Windows 10. I often get asked what program i use to edit my films and this is the one. Power director has always been the market leader and i have to say it's pretty darn good, i would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to produce decent quality films. Like many things it comes with plenty of bells and whistles to play with but i keep it pretty simple using only the minimum needed to produce a film. As i have said before, less is more, cheers.

A passion for angling
Probably the best films ever made about fishing. I have to say that i was inspired by these films as i am sure everyone who watched them was. I still watch them now and then, they never age.

Ninth anniversary
I have just completed my second session this year on Nickolls lake down in Kent and as it happens i also celebrated the ninth year of TheCarpCatcher. It's amazing to think that over all those years the format has remained the same, the only change i guess is me and my beard! So to celebrate i ventured into the wild area again taking two trips with the barrow on what must be a half mile trek. Four days in a JRC 60 inch oval brolly in torrential rain, fog, boiling sun and a driving north-easterly, some nice carp, plus eels! lots of em!! I ain't no pussy but it's good to be home and i'm ready for the tenth year.
