Bivvy Tramps
Who are your top five carpers of all time? How about top five carp captures, or even better, top five bivvy babes? Join Kes and his camo-clad mates in Tommy's Tackle shop to sort out the important carp questions of the day. Kes has been a camper far too long, but he's determined to prove himself by catching the Fat Lady from St Ives Lagoon. Lying on his narrow-boat bunk he dreams of being an X-treme carper, tackling rock hard waters like Fen Drayton and Wraysbury. Unfortunately his plans are put on hold when he gets involved with a new ultra commercial carp fishery, and caught up in a whole lot of trouble with bunny huggers, and the worst Ouse valley flood in living memory. Author Martin Lawrence brings the carp world of Kes and his mates to vivid life in this imaginative fenland tale of camaraderie, dreams, opinions, car boot sales, heavy metal, carp captures, antis and disaster. This totally original book will quickly find a cult following from the legions of carpers who share Kes's aspirations and love of carp fishing.
TheCarpCatcher Bait
The second most important thing after location as far as i am concerned is bait, it is after all what you put in front of the fish to catch it. My faith in bait is as strong as my passion for it and if i didn't have total confidence in my bait then i wouldn't use it, it's that simple. So this year see's the start of TheCarpCatcher Bait and hopefully it will prosper. At the moment the field testers are getting the chance to get some of the initial batch from the manufacturer and as always their voluntary feedback is always welcome. Last years test went amazingly well and there will be more on the way. The Berry needs developing and testing with it's new format. Then there is Ultimate Fish Mix a culmination of everything that is awesome in a fishmeal bait basically :-) Popups and Bait soaks to develop and test too plus all sorts of other things to give us that confidence and edge that we all want over our fishy foe. If you want to apply to become a field tester for TheCarpCatcher Bait then follow the link, cheers.

Park Farm Ghost
My first ever Ghost Mirror and i have to say i was well pleased and for a special reason. This fish swam around evading capture in my swim for two days. Easily spottable because of its color i saw it constantly. On more than one occasion it sussed my carefully presented fake mixer and only ever picked off the freebies. I saw it go up to my controller and then suss the fake mixer! It really knew the score but it's downfall was my very carefully presented chewed popup. Balanced so the eye of the hook sits on the bottom it accounted for over half of all the fish that came to bottom baits. There is a lot to be said for small strong hooks (Razor point, Arma, G-Point) fine strong braid (Pallatrax Steam link, Ace Camo core) and a very carefully thought out and presented bait than a pub chuck eh :-)
Plenty of action
Tomorrow see's the release of the third and last episode of Nickolls lake ~ Hythe 2015. As with the previous two episodes there is plenty of action throughout the film plus all the info on the rigs used and the lead setup that has been so successful for me in the last few years and has now accounted for numerous fish. More than once in this episode i catch two at once plus of course the icing on the cake, that 28lb common. Hopefully i will be returning in march to fish again but until then, hasta la vista baby.

A massive influence
Just finishing off next weeks episode of The Woolpack lake 8 (episode 15) where we enter silly season and start to empty the place. Even though i spend three to four days on the lake it still can all just fly past and seem like a dream. But then comes the editing of the footage and i relive it all again, always it seems in the third person and i'm always surprised at who i am. The obvious influences throughout my life come shining through and this fella John wilson is at the front of the list. The first angler on the screen that actually made me feel i was there and taking part, he had a massive influence on me and this is very evident in the next episode.
Eight years on
We are just a few months off my eighth year doing this and in that time i have kept the way i film and edit almost unchanged. The quality has improved tremendously from the tiny 360p to full HD 1080p. The old ten minute limit on blogs has long passed. Millions of views from you, watched from all over the world and you continue to do so. The only change this year is the titles, i have spruced them up a bit ;-) However i wont be over celebrating i'll just keep them coming same as ever. Going my own way, seeking adventure, having fun but most importantly, keeping it real. Cheers!

A magical trip
For some years i have planned a very special trip down this very special little river and each year i promise myself the same thing. Get a canoe and go. There is miles of wondrous winding river and countryside to meander down with untouched fishing and carp to be found. There is so much adventure and unknown out there, still. Pic:
The Woolpack lake 7 - part six
Episode six is the first part of a three night session i did on lake 7 back in August 2016. A rare chance to be on my own on lake seven and an opportunity to see how they react without the usual bombardment under ideal weather conditions. The constant heat and southwesterly winds had been replaced by cooler northwesterlies and even though fish were showing half way up the lake my instinct told me to get on the end of a summer northerly, set my traps and wait.
Confidence is the key
I spent the afternoon mixing up my Berry basemix and sorting a few kilos for the bank holiday weekend. It's the first opportunity i have had this year to get out for a few nights and i'm hoping to score of course. At this time of year the fish are just waking up and few of them are going to be around, so choice of water is vital. Deep ones will produce but they are not as good a bet as the shallower ones. This is simply because the shallower lakes warm up faster and are more stable than the deeper ones. We learned this at Valley pool, spotting the same old carp swimming around the first few weeks of April but then as the sun got out and the water stabilised, pop! Up come a few more. So i am hoping i have all bases covered. One thing for sure thought, whilst i'm making and using my own bait i will always be totally confident that if a carp comes by it'll get interested.
