It's amazing how you can change your mind on something and let's be honest you have to be a little brave to do it, as it's not something that comes easy. For many years I have been a proponent of slack line fishing and indeed I still am given the right situation, however over time I even began to change and adapt that. I was tightening back on the line, bedding it down into the lake as much as possible and not just simply feeding line off the end of the rod. The idea being to hide the line yes but to also use it to trap the fish and provide a decent indication of a take. However nothing in life is set in stone and to go through life thinking that there is only one way is a mistake because you're going to miss out at some point. Life should be about discovery and pushing the envelope now and then and so for the last few years that is what I have been doing. The one thing that I have done this year that has changed my thinking is to fish with what could be called tight lines, but as with many things it's not really that simplistic. With the rods up you can create elasticity and bounce in your setup, the stretch in the line, the weight of the line, water pressure on that line and the drop that you can put into the line ensures the important part is down on the bottom and the rest up out of the way. But it does more than that, it creates a kick-back on the lead because of the aforementioned elasticity and bounce that is inherent in this setup. When the carp picks up the bait and moves the lead this all immediately comes into effect. It's a whole article itself (https://thecarpcatcher.co.uk/thecarpcatchers_blog.php?post=425) but suffice to say this year I have had a hell of a good season using this setup and I have learned a lot. More importantly though I have learned to be even more open minded because an open mind learns and improves whereas a closed one?
