There are many myths and legends in carp fishing that do not always stand up to the test and perhaps these two, the classic carpers dawn and full moons are there just to give us hope.
The classic carpers dawn is forever portrayed as ghostly mists rising over the waters while the sun breaks the horizon for a brand new day of dreams and possibilities. However we all know that the best dawn to wake up to is one with damp, grey overcast skies and a south westerly piling in. So whenever I see the sun coming up I know the day will be hard and that has not changed since I first started carping in 1980.
The same can also be said for the full-moon, perhaps someone once caught a carp that was famous on a full-moon I dont know but full-moons spell disaster for fishing. I don't know about you but I feel instinctively uncomfortable when I am out in one.
So no... not an easy session this week. Yet again I am prey to the vagaries of the weather and I can do nothing about the timing. However all was not lost as I fished two swims and as ever made some progress. Hopefully I will be able to get back on for the tail end of the expected south-westerlies and before next weeks heatwave!
