This week at Frisby lakes saw me fish two swims in an attempt to get on the fish but the truth is I was on them all the while.
The first night I settled into a swim that had just been cleared by Chris the fishery manager. It gave access to the bars on the back of the island as well as the the south bay area and definitely look good for a fish. I spent two nights there before moving to the second for the last night. In all I managed three runs in 36 hours, compared to last week when I had twelve in the first 36 hours, so what was different? Well in short, the lake switched on and the fishing switched off.
The first sign I saw was the profuse bubbling and fizzing going on all over the silty, deeper areas in the south bay. That coupled with the huge amount of swallows gorging off the surface of the lake told me just one thing. The carp were single mindedly stuffing themselvs on naturals and it was going to be tough to get a bite. In this instance the best thing is to use singles, chods, bright popups and cast around with just a little bait going in if any. This is fishing and I am happy to be philosophical about it and do the hard work, endure as they say but, only as long as i'm back there when the food runs out...
