I'm off tomorrow so I'm out with the camera and roving around looking for a place to fish mon-tue-wed (holiday!). Not sure of the fettle of the river but a bit of spate is always a good thing with some colour. Cawcutts of course and any of my local ponds.Todds? never an easy option in winter but it does contain some lovely hard fighting commons and some rare fully scaled fish. Stocked in the 1970's the strain of these mirrors is as old as the hills. These are the last of a special breed of carp and well worth the angle, but are they awake?
Todds has absolutely loads of features as anyone who's put a sonar or even a marker out over it will tell you. On a sunny day at this time of year they will move into and about the shallow end, depending on the wind. A few can always be found where the depth changes down to the old boathouse bay and there is bound to be some weedbeds left that they'll hang around.
My first winter carp session was on Todds pit, that was back in the winter of 1980-81 almost forty years ago. Time to get out again perhaps and blank in style eh.
