This weeks session on the woolpacks lake 8 was tiring as i spent much of it on the move. Fatigue set in from the first full day when i sat up from 3am in the morning for six hours watching the water and all the activity going on. I grabbed an hours kip but that was it as time flew by in the way it only ever does when you're having fun. I moved five times in all and spent an awful lot of the time with the marker rod, up trees and walking around as well as simply standing by the rods and watching. Lake 8 is a tough proposition for many reasons and this picture clearly demonstrates a few. It's long and narrow giving the carp scope to quickly be out of casting range so you have to move up and down the bank to keep an eye on them as well as a rod. It's old and silty which means features are hard to find and it's deep, one swim i fished had 16 feet three rod lengths out. But the features are there you just have to find them and that can take time, lots of it. So the coming sessions like this one will be spent learning about the water and it's underwater contours as well as the habits of the carp. Hopefully more associations will be drawn between them and a picture will emerge giving me the key to unlock this very tricky and engrossing water.
