As always when your testing out a new bait it's nice to get a result but to be honest I wasn't worried. Vanilla Spice uses a Milk protein basemix and label that has proven itself for four decades now. So, having chosen a water that has plenty of carp the only thing left was to get the tactics right and of course the location.
There is a lot to be said for margin fishing and if you find an area where they come in the rewards can be quiet surprising.
The best thing about it of course is that you can often watch the fish coming in, see their reactions and adjust if needed. You can work the swim too as the close proximity not only allows you to place the rig exactly where you want it but the bait too, and that's important.
Often when a carp comes into your swim to feed it won't clear all the bait away in one go, in fact they often leave some because of course the less bait there is, the more chance one has a hook in it. So by being able to carefully introduce just ten baits (enough for one fish) exactly on the rig you can really boost your chances.
Everything can be controlled more easily, you're in touch with what's going on in your swim to the point where you become completely engrossed in what your doing. Time is compressed as it flies by keeping you on a high and ever active.
This mornings 6 hours or so fishing flew by and I managed three fish. This last one a long common of 18lb+ gave me an epic and hard close in battle. In and out of the weed beds and racing up and down the margin I finally ended up wading out to get it, my thumping heart turning to pure elation as it went over the net.
